Japan here we come




Japan 2018


It's taken us 3 years to return to Japan. I was still working  externally on our last visit (Oct 2014). Now, I'm really a lady of leisure. Richie and I spend most of our days, staying up late, sleeping in late and just hanging about, living the slow life.  

 We've also developed a passion for camping, since our last trip to Japan. We now have all the necessary equipment for many glamorous camping adventures in 2018. Not sure if our camping trips will warrant a blog post.........we'll see.

Tokyo here we come

 Anyway back to this Japan trip, which is the reason for this new blog. This will be our first holiday in winter........ ever! The weather forecast predicts bright, sunny days, with an average of 0 to about 7 degrees. Brrrr. However, we have dug up our big winter coats, hats and scarves and are ready for the cold. I think the sun will be setting at about 4.30 or 5pm, same as London. I'm quite looking forward to experiencing the cold and dark again. Especially as we can return to lovely sunny Perth.
We are finishing off this trip with a week in Lombok. Not much to say there..... it must be about our 20th visit. But the good old Sheraton is such a nice relaxing break, right on the beach, $8 massages, easy peasy..... I also love watching Richie interact with the Sheraton staff, he has built up such a rapport with them over the years, they now won't leave him alone..... no good deed goes unpunished, as they say.

Finally if we still haven't had enough, we may extend and have a few days in Penang (best food ever). The freedom of no commitments is pretty fabulous (except for Fatty Boombah, but she loves the cat prison anyway). Now just have to survive the Air Asia in flight service.........

Tokyo Second Time Around Five days in Shimokitzawa So excited to be visiting Japan again. The Air Asia flight was painless. We came prepared (food, water, movies, own inflight kit) as usual. Even with no hassles, we were pretty tired when we finally reached Tokyo at 10pm. We landed ahead of schedule, did all the airport duties very quickly including changing money and locating the shuttle and arrived at our hotel, JAL City Haneda at 11pm. The hotel room was, as expected super small, but adequate. However, we couldn’t figure out the heating/air humidifier for the first few hours. Then just as we finall y drifted off, (5.30am by this time) a van with a loud speaker came down the road making some announcement. We looked out of the window to see people running down the road. Perfectly sized Nagoya A couple of our friends had questioned why we were visiting Nagoya and although I had done the research, I was starting to doubt the decision. It turns out Nagoya is perfectly sized city for the Ajayi's. It is quite possibly to walk to wherever you want to visit, or if not the subway is quite easy and not as large as Tokyo - meaning you don’t end up walking two kilometers underground! The five and half hour, Willer bus ride was lovely and relaxing. We had a grand view of a snow covered Mt Fuji, although the photos don’t do it justice. The countryside between Tokyo and Nagoya was very mountainous and we went through endless tunnels that run through the mountains. On the Willer again... Mt Fuji viewed from the bus, honestly. When we arrived in Nagoya it was snowing!! Very romantic but very bloody cold. We chose to stay in a hotel, this time. Although we enjoyed the Airbnb in Tokyo, we wanted a bit more ...
